The Village Magazine

September 3, 2015

I’m excited to finally share a very personal project that was published in the current issue of The Village Magazine. I have become increasingly involved in the breastmilk donation community over the past year and completed the first part of a photo essay on a few of the donors and donees I have met. They share their stories as they address issues ranging from cancer to adoption. It’s initially an uncomfortable and/or emotional topic, but our goal was to bring awareness to this wonderful resource that can save money and even lives. Thank you to the wonderful people at The Village Magazine who gave these families a voice. I am giving away a year’s subscription to the magazine on my instagram page if you would like the chance to see the story for yourself!

One thing I love about living in the Baltimore/DC area is the exploding art and small makers scene. I was excited when DomiCile Magazine asked me to pair up with Claire Harper for a tablescape for their current issue. Claire’s styling and creativity amazed me as she created a woodland themed setting with gorgeous watercolors and kokedama. I love photographing living things but it is nice to mix it up with beautiful objects that can’t wiggle away from me. Head over to Domocile for local food, art and activities in the Maryland area!

I almost fainted when I saw Nicole’s satiny feathered wedding dress, and I knew it was going to be a very good day. Over the top glamor, gold painted succulents, amazing light coming in through floor to ceiling windows, this was everything I could have hoped for. But the very best part was the connection between these two – Nicole practically giggled every time she looked at Fernando, and he was just beaming. I loved this day. Congratulations you two.

Foxwood Co

August 6, 2015

I am thrifty. When I was younger being thrifty meant shopping low end chain stores. Now I realize that there are hidden costs to almost everything, and if we aren’t paying someone else is, in some way. Now I try now to buy fewer things that are better and last me longer. And I find that I use them more and treasure them. The amazing husband and wife team behind Foxwood Co have something really special going on. They are incredibly talented artists and their labor of love cutting boards, planters and servers fall squarely into the heirloom category. I was thrilled to be able to help with some of the photos for their new site. Take a peek at their beautiful work online and find them locally at Salt and Sundry, Becket Hitch and many of the artists pop up shops in Baltimore and DC.

Looking at Foxwood’s craftsmanship, I am blown away by their ability to coax the inherent beauty of the materials into functioning beauty. Well captured, Sarah. I am simultaneously inspired to up my radish presentation game, and really hungry.

  2. Jem says:

Okay, Sarah, Christmas is coming and I’ll need one of everything, especially the arrow-shaped breadboard. Beautiful craftsmanship, beautiful photos.
