Maryland Birth Photography

August 16, 2013

It’s hard to know where to begin when describing an experience like this. It starts with a family trusting me and inviting me to take part of what is perhaps the most vulnerable experience of their lives. For weeks before the due date my phone never leaves my side and I jump every time I get a call, and then the call comes. We are giddy at the first pains, we tire as we labor together through the night, we worry a little, there is a lot of love and tenderness, we laugh in between the rushes, and at the end I always cry as the struggle ends in life. I think no other experience in my life has been as moving as being able to witness and photograph births. It sounds cliche but when you watch it unfold it really is incredible, a miracle.

I actually teared up scrolling through these, and I’m not a crier at all. There’s something so tender and magical about these photos. The one where he’s putting chapstick on her lips? Or sitting on the floor laughing and waiting? You did such a beautiful job.

  2. omg. this is amazing. great job on catching the magic. the photos are so real. It’s like I’m really there, watching it unfold in front me.

These are beautiful Sarah – I don’t know why, but tears started to fall at the shots of the husband kissing the new mother and baby. They’re intimate, vulnerable, powerful — yet beautiful at the same time. Bravo Sarah! 🙂
