One thing I love about living in the Baltimore/DC area is the exploding art and small makers scene. I was excited when DomiCile Magazine asked me to pair up with Claire Harper for a tablescape for their current issue. Claire’s styling and creativity amazed me as she created a woodland themed setting with gorgeous watercolors and kokedama. I love photographing living things but it is nice to mix it up with beautiful objects that can’t wiggle away from me. Head over to Domocile for local food, art and activities in the Maryland area!

I’m incredibly honored to be in charge of taking ongoing photos for Maryland Table – a wonderful collective that sources sustainable and local produce, meats, seafood, dairy, baked goods and even things like sorghum syrup! I love the integrity of the project even down to my part. When we need a photo of that local, almost raw cream, I’m not allowed to grab whatever cheap cream I run across at the grocery store that week. Even though all cream pretty much looks the same, we order it from the farm and what you see in the photos is the real, actual product. And then of course I get to drink or eat it and that’s my favorite part. My husband and I get almost all of our food through the Maryland Table website¬†or their new location at the Annapolis Market House.

Maryland Table
For the last three years my husband and I have been happy subscribers to a Community Supported Agriculture program. If you’re at all interested in eating organic, seasonal, local food you should definitely find out about the CSA model. It has completely changed the way we think about our health, food and community. Our CSA really took off this fall with a la carte offerings of organic produce and sustainably raised meats and dairy available¬†through online ordering. We have found it to be a really wonderful thing to be a part of – not only is the food delicious but we are more connected to our neighbors and where we live through this small step.
I was thrilled to be able to take the photos for the new Maryland Table website, though photographing raw chicken was one of the most challenging assignments I’ve had to date. But I couldn’t believe more in a project, as is evidenced by my order every week. Through the winter everything is available as individual items, and the CSA portion will start up again in April. Visit the website, or email Craig at if you’re curious.Organic Maryland FoodOrganic Carrots TurnipsLocal Maryland Food
